Welcome to my world

Hello, my name is Brian Robeson. I put up this blog to get out some of my feelings and the stuff I learned when I was in the wilderness. For those who may not know, I was stuck in the wilderness for over two months.

This whole thing started when I was going to my Dad's house for the summer. When I was saying good bye to my mom she gave me a hatchet. We were in front of a plane called a Cessna 406. This was the plane that would fly me to my Dad's oil field in Northern Canada. When we were in the plane the pilot and I just sat there most of the time until he took off his head phones. Then he taught me how to fly the plane.

Not long after that the pilot had a heart attack and died! I had to wait until the plane ran out of fuel and I decided to fly the plane down into a lake. When the plane hit the water, I panicked! I swam to the shore, laid down, and that was the last thing I remmebered. I was stuck in the wilderness. A couple of things that were very important to me were how the wilderness taught me how to deal with my fears, feelings and problems. I had a lot of fears, feelings and problems, but in the wilderness I learned how to face and deal with them.

Cessna 406

Before this trip I had never flown in a small plane – not to mention in the cockpit. The cockpit is where the pilot flies the plane. The Cessna 406 is an airplane that is very small. It has a very small cargo area. Most of them can hold only about 5 people, but the plane that I crashed in could only hold two and a little bit of luggage in the back.

Hatchet

In the beginning the hatchet wasn’t very important to me. But it ended up helping me so much in the wilderness! I got wood with it and I made fire with it. I also tried to kill myself with it because a plane had flown over me and not noticed me. That made me want to kill myself. I recovered from wanting to kill myself because I changed that day. I changed because I knew that the plane was a search plane. I knew they wouldn’t find me. I respect the hatchet and I’m so glad my mom gave it to me in the first place. When I say that I respect the hatchet I mean that the hatchet was sort of my only friend in the wilderness.

Wilderness

I crashed in the Canadian Wilderness. The Canadian Wilderness is HUGE! The lake I crashed into was “L” shaped and pretty small. The way I crashed was when the pilot died and later the plane ran out of fuel and I decided before that I would land in a lake. I couldn’t find any lake when the plane ran out of fuel so I panicked. But then I saw one but it was very small but was my only choice. When I got out of the water I collapsed and that is the last thing I remember.

When I woke up I had to find food and shelter. For shelter I found a hole under a rock that I could almost stand up in. Then I started to walk around the lake and I found some berries. I ate and ate and ate until I felt sick and then I barfed. Then I decided to call them "gut cherries" because they hurt my stomach. Later I found raspberries. They were so sweet and perfectly ripe. While I was picking them a bear came up behind me. I didn’t know there was a bear there, but something just told me that something was wrong. Toward the end of my adventure in the wilderness, I was attacked by a moose. It was insane! It suddenly just ran up behind me and rammed me into the water head first. At the end I learned that if the moose’s hair stood up on the back of her neck she was getting ready to attack.

After the moose attacked me I went back to my shelter. There was a roaring wind. I suddenly knew that it was a tornado. The next morning I saw the tail of the plane sticking out of the water. In the end I got the survival pack out of the back of the pane. I was looking through the survival pack and I found an electronic device. There was an “on” and “off” switch. But when I turned it on nothing happened. So I put it aside. Shortly after that, they found me.

Pilot

The pilot was very nice to me. I feel very bad. He taught me how to fly the plane. He kept having chest pains and then gas. Finally he started yelling with pain. He hit himself against the seat and then dyed. I saw him one more time after that and it was not pretty. I saw him when I was getting the survival pack. The fish had been eating him and I had been eating the fish. The pilot was a great friend even thought I only had one conversation with him.

Dad

My dad is a mechanical engineer. He designed or invented a new drill bit for oil drilling. It is a self-cleaning, self-sharpening bit. The Judge said that I could spend the Summer with my dad in Northern Canada and the school year with my mom. This is the whole reason why I was on this airplane to Northern Canada.
